Dimraeth Races: Human, Minotaur and Elf
Dimraeth races in the Early Access build: Human, Minotaur and Elf, how each pairing shapes your weapon and skills, and the eight races the studio plans for 1.0.
Dimraeth's Early Access build ships three playable races — Human, Minotaur and Elf — alongside three classes, so there are nine pairings to choose from as of 21 September 2026 (EA build 0.107.7725). The store page's "8 races and 6 classes" line is the studio's target for 1.0, and a separate developer post on the Steam forums names the races it is considering for that roster. Race is not cosmetic: the studio describes races as bringing "distinct racial abilities" into your build, and creator guides report that the race also fixes which weapon family you use.
The three races you can play today
| Race | The studio's own description | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Human | "Renowned for their ingenuity and adaptability, humans are the most populous race in Mirkea. They thrive in diverse environments and contribute significantly to the realm's cultural and technological advancements." | Studio race section on dimraeth.com |
| Minotaur | "towering, imposing beings with muscular builds and formidable strength", standing "between 7 to 10 feet tall", with "the head of a bull with sharp, curved horns that can grow up to several feet in length" | Studio race section on dimraeth.com |
| Elf | Playable and named at launch, but the captured text from the studio's site does not include an Elf entry in its race section | Official Early Access announcement and store Q&A |
The two published descriptions differ in length as much as in content: the Minotaur gets the studio's fullest treatment, covering its height, horns and a reputation for "intelligence and strategic thinking", while the Human is summed up in two sentences about adaptability and population. The Elf is the opposite case — confirmed as a launch race by the store Q&A and the Early Access announcement, but with no matching descriptive text in what was captured. That gap is visible in the table above rather than papered over, because inventing a blurb for a race would be worse than admitting the studio has not published one.
Race and class make one archetype
The studio frames the two picks as a single decision: "Create your hero with a flexible skill tree, distinct racial abilities, and powerful class synergies. Will you master magic as an elf, charge into battle as a minotaur, or carve a new path entirely?" Creator commentary describes race plus class as your archetype and says the pairing decides which skills the tree can reach (single source — creator guides). Human Magician, Minotaur Magician and Elf Magician are therefore three different characters rather than three skins.
That is also why the "48 combinations" figure you may see quoted belongs to 1.0 — it multiplies the planned 8 races by the planned 6 classes. The nine pairings live today are the first slice of that plan, and the classes page covers the other side of each combination.
What the race actually changes
| Element | Human | Minotaur | Elf | Source status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Weapon family | Sword and bow | Battle axe | Twin daggers | Creator guides (single source) |
| Skill tree axis | Class skills sit east–west, race skills north–south | Same reported layout | Same reported layout | Creator guides (single source) |
| Racial ability example | Not described in the captured material | Not described in the captured material | A talent that consumes Bleed to create an extra shadow clone | Creator guide (single source) |
The weapon is the most consequential of those reports, because it is the part you cannot change later without rerolling the race (single source). Creator guides describe Minotaur attacks as wide cleaves that build more stun, Human sword swings as only a small cleave with a bow for ranged work, and Elf daggers as fast but single-target. If you already know whether you want to fight at range or in the middle of a pack, that detail picks the race before the class does.
The skill tree layout is the second reported difference: creator commentary describes class skills branching east and west while race skills branch north and south, and says the same broad blueprint seems to hold across archetypes with small variations (single source). That is one player's observation rather than documentation, so treat the directions as a rule of thumb and read your own character's tree before planning around them.

Is race just a starting bonus?
No — the material treats it as a structural choice. Race decides your weapon family and, according to creator guides, one of the two axes your skill tree opens along, which is why published builds are often race-specific: the best-covered Bleed Shadow route is built on an Elf racial capstone that other races do not have (single source — creator guide). The studio's own framing points the same way, describing races as contributing "abilities, bonuses, and options" rather than a small starting stat nudge.
What the studio has not published is the part most players ask for: there is no official table of racial stat modifiers, no official list of racial abilities per race and no official confirmation of the weapon-per-race rule. Creator guides report all three consistently, but this page keeps them labelled rather than presenting them as documentation. If a number is not here, it is because no official source states it.
The eight races planned for 1.0
A studio reply on the Steam forums splits the planned roster into two groups: "conventional" races it lists as Human, Elf and Dwarf, and "unconventional" ones it lists as Minotaur, Centaur, Golem, Fairy, Troll and Griffons, closing with "After 1.0 we'll have to see!" (single source — developer post, August 2026). Those nine names do not map neatly onto the store's stated figure of eight, and no order or date is attached to any of them, so the honest reading is a direction of travel rather than a schedule.
The same thread records a developer saying kobolds "could be a post 1.0 option" and acknowledging that the team reads race and class requests from players (single source). Nothing in the official record promises a specific race on a specific date, and the roadmap page collects what the studio has actually committed to in writing. Until then, three races is the full list.
Races in Mirkea: what the studio's characters show
The studio's own character blurbs are the best available look at how these races sit in the world. Manga, Earlwood's blacksmith, is a former warrior of the Minotaur Empire whose cut-off horns are "a mark of exile for refusing to join a brutal raid", and he follows a philosophy called Praesidiism. Eldorian is an Elven adventurer "skilled with both spear and spell" who greets newcomers to the Guild Hall, and Alaric Audet is a human folk hero described as standing 6.4 feet with "piercing blue eyes".
Three more characters fill in the setting without settling any racial rules. Befr is a travelling merchant with a caravan in Earlwood Village, and Tamsin is an enchanter from the Great City of Aldoria who studied at the Academy of Arcana. Myrll, a creature with "doe legs and a fox's tail" exiled from the forest she protected, appears on the same page but her blurb does not name a race at all. These are worldbuilding notes rather than character-creation statistics, and they are the studio's words rather than player reporting.

What this page does not cover
No stat tables, no racial ability lists and no per-race level curves appear here, because the studio has not published them and this site does not publish numbers it cannot source. If you are comparing pairings, the classes page covers the other half of the choice and builds covers how attributes and gear turn a pairing into a route. Anything that names specific spells or schools belongs on the spells page, and the beginner guide covers the opening hours where these decisions land.
FAQ
- How many races are in Dimraeth?
- Three in the build live on 21 September 2026 (EA build 0.107.7725): Human, Minotaur and Elf (official Early Access announcement and store Q&A). The store page also advertises "8 races and 6 classes", which is the studio's target for 1.0 rather than the current roster. The classes page covers the other half of the pairing.
- Is the Elf playable in Early Access?
- Yes. Elf is named as one of the three launch races by the Early Access announcement and the store Q&A. What is missing is a descriptive blurb: the text captured from the studio's own site describes the Minotaur and the Human in its race section but does not include an Elf entry, so this page quotes the two published descriptions and does not invent a third.
- Does the race change my stats?
- The studio says races bring "distinct racial abilities" into your build, so the choice is mechanical rather than cosmetic — but it has not published a stat table, ability list or level curve for any race. Creator guides report that the race fixes your weapon family and opens one axis of the skill tree (single source), and those reports are labelled as such here because the studio has not confirmed them in writing.
- Can I change my race after creating a character?
- The studio has not described changing race on an existing character, so that stays to confirm. The respec the material does document covers skill points and attributes, not the race itself (single source). If the weapon family really is tied to the race, that makes the race decision the one part of the pairing worth taking slowly — see builds for how that plays out.
- What races are coming in 1.0?
- A studio reply on the Steam forums groups the planned roster into "conventional" races it lists as Human, Elf and Dwarf and "unconventional" ones it lists as Minotaur, Centaur, Golem, Fairy, Troll and Griffons, closing with "After 1.0 we'll have to see!" (single source — developer post, August 2026). That is a direction of travel, not a schedule: no dates or order are attached, and the store still states the target only as eight races.
