Dimraeth Base Building: Sanctum, Storage & Planks
Dimraeth base building explained: the Workbench-first Sanctum order, where the first Pinewood Planks come from, and when storage actually pays off.
Base building in Dimraeth starts with a loop that looks impossible: the Workbench you need requires Pinewood Planks, and the Workbench is also the thing that lets you make Pinewood Planks. The way out is exploration loot, and once you are through that gate the Sanctum stops being a materials puzzle and starts being a logistics problem. This page covers the build order that a third-party guide documents from first-hand play, plus the specific recipes and slot limits that decide whether your first hour at the base goes smoothly.
The build order that avoids the early traps
The guide's sequence is deliberately unfashionable: it ignores anything decorative until the functional layer exists.
| Priority | Build | Why this position |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Workbench | Breaks the material loop; without it the opening base quest can look impossible |
| 2 | Storage (Pinewood Chest) | Stops carrying wood, stone, planks, nails, equipment, food and quest loot back and forth |
| 3 | Recurring utility, e.g. Water Well | Saves time while you are away from the Sanctum |
| 4 | Production facilities and extra crafting stations | Compounds the time savings once the basics run themselves |
| Later | Walls, flooring, larger house projects | Only when a quest specifically needs them |
The logic behind the order is that each step removes the next bottleneck rather than completing the settlement. The guide is blunt about the last row: it keeps house-building behind the practical upgrades and warns against holding up the main story just to finish the Pinewood house.

The Pinewood Plank problem
This is the step that catches people out, because the menu makes it look circular. The Workbench needs 2 Pinewood Planks, and the Workbench is also what converts Pine into Pinewood Planks — so arriving at the building menu with no planks looks like a recipe with no way forward.
The guide's workaround is to get those first planks from the world instead of the bench: chests, bodies and searchable spots such as logs, plus the town stash if you have been picking up highlighted loot during the opening route. Its advice is to resist spending the first few planks on anything decorative, because until the Workbench exists they are the key that unlocks repeatable production.
Once the bench is down the problem inverts. Pine becomes a renewable source of Pinewood Planks, and Stone supplies the Nails that other construction asks for, so the same two materials keep feeding the build queue.
When storage is actually worth it
Storage is the second build rather than the first, and the reason is inventory pressure rather than convenience. The guide points out that the Guild Hall does have an early chest, but it holds only 18 slots — enough as a temporary stash, not as a home once equipment sets, food, crafting materials, boss drops, wood, stone and building parts are all competing for backpack space.
Your own storage arrives through early Sanctum progression: the guide records the first base tasks unlocking the Workbench, Alchemy Table and Storage Chest options, and recommends building the Workbench before the chest anyway because the material bottleneck sits behind it. That is the same reasoning the pets page uses for Courier — once companions can send loot back to Sanctum chests, capacity stops being a per-run problem.
Crafting at the Sanctum
The base is also where crafting happens, and the community wiki frames that system with a concrete number: crafting turns gathered materials into food, gear, potions and spellbooks at four stations, with 48 base recipes before upgrade tiers. It does not itemise every recipe on the public page, so this site does not republish a recipe table that may change between hotfixes — the spells page explains the same stance for spellbooks specifically.
What is worth knowing before you start stockpiling is the shape of the output: food and potions are consumables, gear and spellbooks are progression, and both draw on the same gathered materials that your construction queue wants. That overlap is why the guide treats the Workbench as urgent — it is the station that turns raw gathering into both lines.

Where to go next
If your bottlenecks are in fights rather than inventory, the builds page and the class list cover the character side, and races covers the racial abilities you pick before any of it. For the wider route so you know when base work is meant to happen, start with the guide, and if you have not bought in yet the Early Access status page explains how far along the build is.
FAQ
- What should you build first in the Dimraeth Sanctum?
- Workbench first, then storage, then recurring utility such as the Water Well, then production. That order comes from a third-party guide and is driven by removing the next bottleneck rather than by how complete the settlement looks.
- Why can't I build a storage chest yet?
- Because your own storage unlocks through early Sanctum progression rather than from the start. The guide records that the first base tasks open up the Workbench, Alchemy Table and Storage Chest options, and that the early chest in the Guild Hall holds only 18 slots in the meantime.
- Where do you get Pinewood Planks before you have a Workbench?
- From exploration loot. The Workbench itself needs 2 Pinewood Planks, and it is also what lets you turn Pine into Planks afterwards, so the guide says to collect the first planks from chests, bodies and searchable spots such as logs, and to check the town stash if you have been picking up highlighted loot.
- What do you need for construction besides planks?
- Stone, for Nails. The same guide notes that once the Workbench is up, Pine can supply Pinewood Planks on demand while Stone supplies the Nails other structures call for, which is why holding back the first planks matters more than it looks.
- Should I build the house or walls first?
- No. The guide explicitly leaves walls, flooring and larger house projects behind the practical upgrades unless a quest specifically requires them, and warns against stalling the main story just to finish the Pinewood house.
